INTERNATIONAL VACCINATION CERTIFICATE
Applicants
who have visited any of the countries listed below within the
previous 90 days, must present a Yellow Fever International
Certificate upon entering Brazil:

Yellow
fever vaccination is recommended if applicant intends to visit one
of the following regions in Brazil: Acre, Amapá, Amazonas, Federal
District, Goiás, Maranhão, Mato Grosso, Mato Grosso do Sul, Pará,
Rondônia, Roraima, Tocantins.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION
-
Holders of a VITEM I are not
allowed to engage in any paid activity under employment contract
with a Brazilian entity. This visa allows the bearer to stay in
Brazil from 60 days up to 2 years depending on the purpose of
the trip. For exchange students and interns the validity of
Vitem I is limited to 1 (one) year not extendable.
PROCESSING TIME
Plan your trip accordingly, in order to
have your visa issued on time. We do not expedite visa. In case of
emergency, please come in person to the Consulate with all
supporting documentation.
By mail:
10 business days. It also applies to
those who submit their application in person but leave an Express
mail in order to have their document returned by mail.
In person: 3 business days.
REQUIRED DOCUMENTS
1)
Original passport valid
for at least 6 (six) months prior to its expiration date. The
passport must have at least 2 (two) blank visa pages and be signed
on page 3;
2)
One recent individual
passport photo, full-frontal, white background;
3)
One electronic visa application form - click

Please, make sure to provide full information, even those
supposedly not required. If you leave any field blank, we may
request you to provide that information what could cause your
application to be delayed or even refused.
4)
Proof of residence
within the consular jurisdiction for the past 12 months: Florida,
Puerto Rico, U.S. Virgin Islands;
5)
Proof of financial
ability to pay for the stay in Brazil or letter from sponsor
assuming responsibility for applicant's trip and stay in the
country;
6)
Certificate of good
conduct/ lack of criminal record issued by the police department/
authorities of applicant's place of residence;
7)
Applicants under 18
years of age must present both copy and original of the birth
certificate and a notarized letter of consent signed by either
parents or legal guardian(s) authorizing the Consulate General of
Brazil to issue a visa for the minor applicant.
8)
Please note: although
Brazilian authorities do not legally require written authorization
for US citizens under 18 years of age to travel without both or
one of the parents, we do recommend that minors in this situation
entering Brazil or traveling within the country to carry such a
document;
9)
A copy of a round-trip
ticket or a booked itinerary showing travel to and from Brazil,
confirming purchase of the ticket and passenger's name, itinerary,
flight number and arrival/departure dates;
10)
Principal applicant
applying for his/her dependant, must provide proof of relationship
besides all documents listed above.
11)
Those applying either by
mail or by a third party must present proof of residence within
the jurisdiction of this Consulate (Florida, Puerto Rico, US
Virgin Island): Driver’s License or any recent utility bill –
issued within the past 90 days), and a prepaid
self-addressed express mail envelop available at any US Postal
Service;
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
For
applicants planning to engage in research, scientific or teaching
activities:
-
Letter from Brazilian sponsoring
organization informing activities to be pursued, length of stay
and pecuniary conditions. This letter must be notarized by a
“Cartório” in Brazil and presented the original. Medical or
dental volunteer services can only be provided once the proper
authorization by a Conselho Federal or Regional de Medicina is
issued. The collection of biological and mineral material and/or
carrying-out activities in indigenous areas require prior
authorization by the Conselho Nacional de Desenvolvimento
Científico e Tecnológico - CNPq and/or by the Fundação Nacional
do Índio- FUNAI;

Professors, scientists,
researchers engaged in scientific and technical cooperation
program must obtain from the Brazilian party an authorization
from CNPq and MCT (Ministério da Ciência e Tecnologia) prior to
applying.
For
applicants planning to engage in activities under an international
cooperation program:
-
Copy of the international
agreement, proof of professional expertise and letter from
sponsoring organization informing activities to be pursued by
the applicant and attesting to the following: that the
organization will be responsible for repatriating the applicant
(and his/her family, as the case may be) once the visa expires
or the agreement ceases to exist, and that the applicant will
not receive any payment from a Brazilian-based entity;
For applicants traveling
as interns:
-
Copy of appropriate documentation
attesting to the conditions for internship, scholarship and the
required involvement of a Brazilian Government agency,
international cooperation organization or authorized exchange
organization ( in this case, include copy of its bylaws,
official registration, act of establishment, and CNPJ number
(Ata de Constituição da entidade e comprovante de situação
cadastral do CNPJ). You must obtain these documents from the
Brazilian entity. The Visa will be good for up to 1 year,
non-renewable.
For exchange students:
-
Copy of school registration or
letter of acceptance, parents` authorization (if applicant is
under 18 years old), address, names, and qualifications of
responsible parties in Brazil.
For applicants traveling
to obtain technical training:
-
Letter from employer certifying
that applicant will not receive wages or payment of any kind
from a Brazilian entity, and letter from the Brazilian company
describing the nature of training to be provided and assuming
responsibility for the applicant's stay in Brazil. These letters
must be notarized. The letter from the Brazilian institution
must be notarized by a “Cartório” and presented the original.
The Visa will be valid for up to 60 days, renewable once for the
same time;
For applicants traveling
to obtain athletic training:
-
If applicant is under 18 years
old, parent's letter of authorization; recent non-criminal
record issued by local Police Department (for applicants older
than 18 years old), copy of birth certificate, copy of the
agreement/contract between the American and the Brazilian
organizations involved and copy of documents stating the
following: confirmation of applicant's training program for a
specified time period, maintenance conditions in Brazil and
guarantee that applicant will be repatriated upon expiration of
allowed stay in the country; for applicants up to 21 years of
age, the Visa will be valid for a maximum of 1 year,
non-renewable.
Volunteers working to charitable or religious entities,
non-governmental organizations, social assistance, without labor
contract with Brazilian entities:
- Document
from the entity based in Brazil inviting the foreigner to
provide voluntary services;
- Act of
incorporation or bylaws of the applicant duly registered with
the competent regulatory body;
- Act of
nomination, appointment or election of current directors;
- Proof of
registration with the Council of Social Services, or certificate
of qualification as a civil society organization of public
interest, issued by the Ministry of Justice;
- Document
specifying the place where the service will provided and the
volunteer activities that will be developed by the foreigner;
- Letter from
the entity assuming full responsibility for the foreigners
during their stay in Brazil and the return to their country of
origin;
- statement of
responsibility by the organization or institution assuming any
and all medical and hospital expenses related to the foreigner
and his/her dependents during his/her stay in Brazil;
- Proof of no
criminal record;
- Document
proving professional qualification compatible with the
activities to be performed and,
proof that the entity is in full and regular operation.
FEE
-
The fee has to be paid by US
Postal Money Order OR receipt provided by the ATM machine
located at the Consulate's main lobby. The ATM only accepts cash
and charges US$ 1.00 for the service.

*Attention: if you are
applying in person for an immediate family member, you are not required to

VISAS BY MAIL
-
Please allow 12 (twelve) business
days for processing of visa application and return of passport,
not including transit time. This processing time applies from
the moment application is received at the Consulate.
-
Inquiries about the status of your
visa application will only be provided if the processing time
required by this Office has passed. Please confirm at the Post
Office with your tracking number the exact date your application
was received at the Consulate, otherwise consular officers will
not be able to provide you with any information.
-
The Consulate will receive
correspondence sent by the U.S. Postal Service as well as all
courier services (address the envelope to the attention of the
Visa Section). However, the Consulate will only return documents
via the U.S. Postal Service Express Mail. Applicants must
therefore enclose a self-addressed stamped envelope for the
return of their documents.
-
Incomplete or incorrect
applications will be returned to sender.
-
The Consulate will not accept
envelopes which contain more than one application. Such
envelopes will be returned except when the documents belong to
members of the immediate family.
-
The Consulate is not responsible
for delayed, lost or stolen mail.
