Brazilian-born photographer Cesar Barroso does fine art photography in
the tradition of Edward Weston and Imogen Cunningham. He photographs the
botanical world in black & white, generally in close-ups, “to make the
viewers realize the beauty that is around us and we generally do not pay
attention to; the wonderful struggle for life that takes place around us
in our gardens, streets and parks; the intelligence of beings that
articulate in beautiful maneuvers to survive and to attract attention”.
After a promising beginning with an exhibit at the Stock Market of Rio
de Janeiro Gallery, in 2004, Cesar went to Rome, Italy, in 2005, with a
show of 32 photographs in the prestigious Palazzo Pampholj, which houses
the Brazilian Embassy in Italy. The exhibit had a warm reception of the
Italian public, and of people of all parts of the world that visit
Piazza Navona, inclusively photographers from the United States.
Cesar utilizes film, which he develops and prints in gelatin silver on
fiber based photographic paper. He takes care of the whole process
himself in his own darkroom. He does not reject digital photography, but
prefers to photograph with film. At the moment he is absorbed in
photographing the incredible variety of natural manifestations in the
Fairchild Tropical Botanical Garden, and all over Miami-Dade, in the
streets, parks, and in his neighborhood, Aventura, which City Hall
permanently exhibits some of his photographs.
