"By the occasion of the Milton Nascimento & Jobim Trio’s visit to Miami for the performance at the Adrienne Arsht Center, the Antonio Adolfo School Of Music is proud to present a 90 minute duration workshop with this two great musicians: Paulo Jobim and Daniel Jobim, respectively son and grandson of the master Antonio Carlos Jobim. They will comment and play examples as well as answer questions from the audience about the life and music of the genius Antonio Carlos Jobim.

The relationship between Antonio Adolfo and both, Paulo and Daniel Jobim comes from longtime ago. Antonio is actually member of the Advisory Board of the Centro Tom Jobim, and has been Daniel’s music teacher for almost two years during the 80’s

After bold and unique theme shows, Brazilian Voices will now show the influence of African culture in Brazil. Composers such as Gilberto Gil, Milton Nascimento, Lenine and Bob Marley are in the jamming repertoire. The night will highlight locally acclaimed Jazz musician, George Tandy, and his talented band. Special appearances by Jamaican singer Shari MacDonnough, Diogo Brown, bass player, Mangueira Capoeira, Fábio Barros and Andrea Araújo, Brazilian dancers.

"The Bakehouse Art Complex is hosting a benefit for the BAC to maintain it as one of the most unique art facilities for artists in Miami and the Wynwood District. The event will offer free food and beverage, hosted by Rums of Puerto Rico, entertainment, and raffles on 77 works of art donated by Bakehouse and community artists. We anticipate hundreds of people for this fundraiser, kicking off another wonderful season of art in the City of Miami.

K-12 Conference Language for Business:
New perspectives on developing a language for business course

Incorporating Languages for Business into the k-l2 Curriculum

October 31 - November 1, 2008
Florida International University's Center for International Business Education and Research (FIU-CIBER) in collaboration with the Embassy of Spain, and other institutions is organizing a conference to make all text books for teaching Spanish, Portuguese, Japanese and Chinese for business available to K-12 teachers. Through our partners the conference will bring editorial companies from different parts of the world to Miami to showcase the materials to K-12 teachers of all around the US. There will be travel grants available for K-12 teachers. FIU-CIBER language coordinator, Dr. Maida Watson, created a list of the latest editions of Spanish for Business text books available to the public. She distributed the list to all participants of our Faculty Development program "Teaching Spanish for Business in Spain" and was an immediate success. "Papo Afiado"


The Weston Library offers a free conversation group program for people learning Portuguese (intermediate level) to come practice with both bilingual volunteers and other learners. There is no formal instruction at the group, but it provides a good opportunity for people enrolled in lessons to practice in between classes.

It is not necessary to register.
