ATTENTION
According to the Brazilian Decree #
6,946, of August 21, 2009, it is no longer necessary the consular legalization of
the International Health Certificate for Pets, issued by local
veterinarian and certified by the US Department of Agriculture.
International Health Certificate for Pets (dogs
and cats only) issued by veterinarians must be
certified by the USDA (US Department of Agriculture). The
International Health Certificate must show that the pet identified was
examined by a veterinarian in the ten days prior to shipment, not
showing any clinical sign of disease

Import of live animals (except dogs
and cats) to Brazil
The legalization of import certificates for live animals to Brazil
requires previous authorization by the Ministry of Agriculture (Ministério
da Agricultura, Pecuária e Abastecimento - MAPA), according to Instrução
Normativa #1, as of January 14, 2004.
In order to request import
authorization or for further information, please contact the Ministry of
Agriculture at ctqa@agricultura.gov.br
Only after obtaining import
authorization from the Ministry of Agriculture, importers shall submit
the International Health Certificate to the Consulate to be legalized,
accompanied by proof of import authorization granted by the Ministry of
Agriculture.
All documents must be presented in
person or sent to the Consulate by mail (U.S. Postal Service) in
"Express Mail" envelope ONLY. Please enclose a
self-addressed pre-stamped return envelope.
The legalization fee is US$ 20.00
(twenty dollars) per document paid in U.S. Postal Service money order
ONLY.

note that the requirements described above do not apply to dogs or cats.
