Brazilian Culture: Enriched by the Diversity of its People

By Raquel Ruiz

First Place

The beautiful Brazil girl in the picture name is Raquel and she speaks Portuguese the language of Brazil. The day is September 7 Independence Day in Brazil and Raquel's home room teacher told everyone one in class that they must do a poster project to represent "Brazilian Culture about Enriched by the Diversity of its People" The teacher said they could draw anything and use any color and they also must write a story about the picture. After soccer practice the teacher took them to the forest to see nature stuff. Raquel got a idea.

She ask her teacher if its ok to show what she think about Brazil and teacher said ok. Raquel keep her soccer pants with the country flag on it and her soccer shoes because soccer is very popular in Brazil and every time they win a competition Raquel cry tears of joy because she is very proud of her country. One socks had the Coat of Arms on it. She put on her Carnival shirt and Carnival Mask she got from the Rio De Janeiro Carnival. Also Raquel had on a Indian necklace and a Indian arm band and a chain that had a cross because she is Catholic. She pick the national flower the Ipê-amarelo and put it in her hair. Then she get in a position her uncle teach her how to do the Capoeira dance move (her uncle told her that the African people invent this like a dance but it really was martial arts so they could be strong to fight), with her hands on the ground in front and body to the side. Then a Toucan Bird land on her arm and she smiled. Next she sees a coffee tree in front of her leg. And she hear the water in the water fall falling on the rocks.

Everybody clapped for Raquel and they were happy too. Raquel got an A for her project and her mom, teacher and friends and family was proud and happy that she knows about so many things in Brazil. Raquel also write the story because many famous authors are from Brazil. Thank you.
